Nate and Vonda drove in from Utah and made it to Santa Barbara just before a thick fog rolled in at sunset. We ate crab by the water and had a wonderful reunion! More here.

I wondered why people were tickling and kicking me all day yesterday; then Eva sent me this picture taken before I left San Francisco that explained it. :-)

Brazilian Dance Party featuring Paula Fernandes (by careygly)

This video is pretty representative of the fun we had all weekend. Thanks again to Bassam & Liana and Claudio & Ryan for their hospitality. It’s been a busy week. 4 trips to the airport and lots of driving around, including getting Daniel ready for his driving test. Joelle arrived from India, Marcelo from Portland, Miggl from Germany and Claudio from Brazil. Joelle’s moving to Pakistan after this, and Marcelo is heading north again. Hopefully Bine will be visiting from Africa soon and Tom and Cathy will make their way back south so our far flung group of friends can have another GLY reunion!

Even though the new #Weho library is a complete waste of money, it’s a pretty place to take pictures.

Saw Wicked again today and it was great (again)!

Eva walked the red carpet in her fabulous green frock last night at a free screening of Haywire and the star of the movie, Gina Carano was there for a Q&A. She’s apparently big in the Mixed Martial Arts world. The movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh, and although weak in plot was action packed. The supporting cast included Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender and many more. After the Q&A with Gina, we went for Thai food, but Elvis wasn’t there, as he had a stroke in October. Get well soon Thai Elvis! Today we’re going to a matinee of “Wicked” and having dinner with Carolina. Tomorrow, the Getty Villa in Malibu. Hope everyone’s having a great weekend!

Eva’s back from Kenya and Ryan’s back from Brazil and their first stop was the world famous Hotel Careyfornia (after arriving in our super speedy airport shuttle)!

It was great having all of our GLY friends here this week. Thanks for coming everyone! More here.

UCSB Arts & Lecture Series presents Fabulous Fridays. My slideshow from tonight in SB.

We went to see Ziegfeld Girls tonight in the sunken garden of the Santa Barbara courthouse. What a nice evening! MGM pulls out all the stops in this spectacle about the lives of three Ziegfeld girls: Judy Garland, Lana Turner, and Hedy Lamarr. With Busby Berkeley’s sizzling direction of the production numbers; Adrian’s mind-boggling costumes; and such young and upcoming stars as James Stewart, Tony Martin, Jackie Cooper and Eve Arden, this film is a dose of Forties sentimentality. Yesterday was Martin & Rob’s last day here, so we started out the morning at The Griddle with Canh, and then headed to the “off the beaten path” Watts Towers. After that we had a late lunch at the churrascaria at The Grove and then went over to the LA County Museum of Art for the Urban Lights exhibit, then the LaBrea Tar Pits. After yet another trip to the airport, Eva and I finished the evening by watching a movie. Today we went to see Super 8 at the Arclight, and she just drove back to Santa Barbara. Now it’s just me and the dogs. What a fun weekend! More here: http://tinyurl.com/4y9of36

After a quick visit with Carolina last night, we headed out for a quick 2 hour tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills before heading back to the airport once again to bid adieu to Bine & Angie and welcome Rob back home from the Philippines after a 2 month unplanned hiatus. Dinner was at Palms Thai and a good time was had by all! More here: http://tinyurl.com/4y9of36

The Germans arrived tonight (with Eva) and we went out for a late sushi dinner and then came home and filmed a re-enactment of Dirty Dancing. It’s nearly 3 AM and now we’re watching Mamma Mia…I only have to work at 7 AM. “The night is young…and so am I” :)
